Southport Pier Plank Mystery: Council's Landfill Statement Stirs Controversy

The mystery of the disappearing planks on Southport Pier took an unexpected twist when the senior councillor, Cllr. Christine Howard, the Cabinet Member responsible for pier repairs said that the pier planks that mysteriously emerged for re-sale 'categorically cannot be used for the restoration project' and the alternative was the timber 'going to landfill'.

Future Generation of Architects Inspects Southport Pier's Renovation Works

Students from Southport had an invaluable behind-the-scenes look at exploratory work taking place on Southport Pier. Dozens of first year T Level Surveying and Architecture students from Southport College were invited by Sefton Council and contractors AE Yates to look at the extensive survey work taking place on the iconic structure.

Southport Pier Restoration Begins with Detailed Survey

Contractors are now on site for approximately 12 weeks to conduct a more detailed survey of Southport Pier. The contract, believed to be worth £400,000 for this phase of the project is expected to last until mid-February 2023 and see a significant section of the Pier's damaged decking removed as well as further assessments.
